GEOpolitics Issue №13

Georgia before October 26 and after November 28 are two vastly different states. Before the October elections, deemed fraudulent due to vote-buying, secrecy violations, and misuse of administrative resources, Georgian Dream (GD) faced Western sanctions threats while targeting opponents, civil society, and the media. Meanwhile, the opposition aimed to replace the Russia-leaning oligarch with a pro-European coalition.

The election results, granting GD an unexpected 53% victory, led to an opposition boycott of Parliament, symbolizing a one-party state. On November 28, the government’s decision to delay seeking EU membership until 2028 sparked nationwide protests met with brutal crackdowns—violence against demonstrators, arbitrary arrests, and raids on party offices.

The ongoing confrontation between pro-European Georgians and GD's propaganda-driven regime will shape the nation’s future. This issue examines the election outcomes, protests, and Georgia’s strained ties with the West.
