This volume highlights Ukraine and Georgia’s ongoing struggle for sovereignty and democracy amidst the persistent pressures and influences from Russia. The common thread across our pieces is the urgent need for a cohesive and robust Western strategy to counteract Russian aggression and influence, as well as the critical role of Western support in safeguarding democratic aspirations and security.
In this context, several common themes emerge - the historical and ongoing Russian imperialism, the strategic importance of Georgia as a transit and logistical hub, and the fluctuating dynamics of Western engagement and support. From the strategic pivot away from Western partnerships, such as the Anaklia port project now under the threat of Chinese control, to the EU and NATO’s dilemmas in responding to Georgia's democratic backsliding, the articles underscore the complexities Georgia faces. The writings emphasize the necessity of a united and decisive Western front, reminiscent of Noe Jordania's calls for European solidarity against Russian imperialism.
